This event is the 2026 Rocky Mountain Regional Championship for Gripsport International. Competitors from Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado are eligible to compete. (Note: Idaho has been moved to the Pacific region for 2026)

Weigh-ins will be conducted 9-9:30 am followed by a rules briefing. Lifting to begin no later than 10 am.

Events:

1. 2 3/8" One Hand Nightmare

2. 3x4" Two Hand Nightmare

3. Inch Pinch

4. 2.5" Jug

5. Farmers hold for time

All 5 events will be subject to all standard GSI rules. Namely, the only grip aid allowed is pure magnesium carbonate chalk. No tacky, no liquid chalk, no silica "chalkless" products may be used. Wrist wraps are disallowed, but belts and knee sleeves are allowed.

Equipment for events 1-3 and 5 available from Arm Assassin. Feel free to contact me with any questions on specifics.

The farmers handles are custom spec with 1 5/8" fixed handles and a 16" pick height. A cheaper alternative for training would be offset dumbell handles, though you may want to request longer sleeves for a small upcharge if you have thick plates.

The 2.5" jug is available from FBBC

Events 1 - 4 will be contested for max weight to a 6" crossbar. Each athlete will get up to 8 attempts (subject to change based on total competitor count). These 4 events will be conducted in a rising bar, last man standing format in which we start at the lightest opening weight and add weight until no competitors remain. Each attempt will be limited to 1 minute (also subject to change). A failed attempt will be your last on that event even if prior to your 8th attempt.

Additional notes on events 1-4:

1. Excessive tilting of the implement will not be allowed. Exact guidelines will be demonstrated prior to the event. This is a one handed lift, and that hand must be entirely on the spinning portion of the implement.

2. Both hands must be entirely on the spinning portions of the implement. Double overhand grip.

3. This event is "key pinch" meaning only your thumb and index fingers can come in contact with the implement. You may not grab the underside of the implement at all. This is a one handed lift.

4. Rotation will be allowed at the lifter's own discretion. Supination of the hand, especially in combination with rotation, is highly discouraged due to risk of injury. Safer technique will be demonstrated. You also may not grab the underside of the implement. This is a one handed lift.

Event 5 will be conducted in a trump weight system with 5 different weights offered (details below). A short hold on a heavier weight will place better than a long hold on a lighter weight. You will get 1 attempt. You will get 30 seconds to initiate a successful attempt of at least 2 full seconds. Failure to lift both implements off the ground for at least 2 seconds will be a "zero" for the event, so choose your weight wisely. The handles are fixed and 1 5/8" thick with a pick height of at least 16" (may put them on blocks or mats to reduce ROM on the pick). Handles will be available for testing throughout the day.

Weights offered (subject to change, but these should be pretty close):

  • 267.5 lbs/hand (110 kg + 25 lb handle)
  • 223.4 lbs/hand (90 kg + handle)
  • 179.3 lbs/hand (70 kg + handle)
  • 135.2 lbs/hand (50 kg + handle)
  • 69.1 lbs/hand (20 kg + handle)

Men's divisions will have a 1 minute time cap on 179 lbs/hand and below and a 2 minute cap on 223 lbs. No time cap on the top weight. This rule is to prevent someone from attempting an extremely long hold on a light weight.

Women's divisions will have a 1 minutes time cap on 69 lbs/hand and a 2 minute cap on 135 and 179 lbs/hand. No time cap on the top 2 weights offered.

Scoring will be reverse strongman, meaning the top lifter receives 1 point, 2nd place 2 pts, and so on. Lowest total score across 5 events wins. Points will be tracked for both overall as well as within your own weight class. Note that with this scoring system, it is possible to finish above someone in the weight class standings but below them in the overall standings or vice versa. The first tiebreaker, if necessary, will be total weight lifted across the first 4 events. If needed, the second tiebreaker would be event placement on the farmers holds.

Medals will be given to the top 3 athletes in all weight classes. Lighter weight classes or an openweight masters class can be added with sufficient interest and lead time for award creation. Please let me know if either of these would apply to you.

A huge shoutout to all of the event sponsors for contributing to an incredible prize pool:

The top overall man and woman will also each receive a prize pack including a custom trophy item, $150 courtesy of Mountain Man Performance, a $20 SSE giftcard, and a Saxon Squeezer grip tool.

The top male and female on the farmers hold will win $25 Arm Assassin gift cards. The pound for pound champion will win a $20 SSE gift card. A pair of custom MadKow magnetic Mini Horns will also be in the prize pool with a secret way to win them revealed after. The Grip Show is also contributing to the prize pool details TBD.
