Welcome to TheGripMap. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our website (thegripmap.com) and Android application (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Location Data
The TheGripMap Android app requests access to your device's precise and approximate location
(ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION). Location is used
solely to center the map near you and to display nearby grip sport events and gyms. We do
not store, transmit, or share your location data with any third party.
Location access is optional — the app functions without it, but the map will not be centered on
your current position.
Usage Data
We may collect anonymous, aggregated information about how the Service is used (e.g., pages visited, features accessed). This data contains no personally identifiable information and is used only to improve the Service.
Account Information (Promoters Only)
If you register as an event promoter on thegripmap.com, we collect the email address and password you provide. Passwords are stored as secure hashes and are never stored in plain text. We do not collect payment information.
2. How We Use Information
- To display grip sport events and gyms on the map
- To center the map on your current location (if permission is granted)
- To allow promoters to create and manage event listings
- To improve and maintain the Service
We do not sell, rent, or trade any user information to third parties.
3. Third-Party Services
The Service uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Google Maps Platform — used to render the interactive map. Google may collect data in accordance with their Privacy Policy.
- Google AdSense — used to display advertisements on the website. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits. You can opt out via Google's Ad Settings.
4. Permissions Used by the Android App
- INTERNET — required to load map data and event listings from our servers.
- ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION — used to show your precise location on the map (optional).
- ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION — used as a fallback for approximate location (optional).
No location data is ever transmitted to our servers or stored beyond your device session.
5. Data Retention
We retain promoter account data for as long as the account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.
6. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information against unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
